So today in class, the students presented their group commercials. For the past five weeks, the 7th grade Language Arts students have been learning about persuasive writing and advertisements.
Last week the students created their own print advertisement using one of the persuasive techniques they learned about (i.e. Bandwagon effect, Testimonials, Facts and Figures, Humor, Transfer, and Avant-gaurde). Click below to see a slideshow of some of the masterpieces these brilliant minds came up with.
This week, the students were busy creating and rehearsing their commercials with their group members in class. Each group had to use one of the persuasive techniques listed above to try to convince people to believe their message, whether it was “Come to Write-On,” “Don’t be a Bully,” “Don’t do Drugs,” or “Why it’s Important to get Good Grades.” Today, the students performed their commercials in front of the entire class with their group members. Everyone did a fabulous job and had a lot of fun! After the entertaining commercials were all presented, the class took an anonymous vote on which group had the best commercial. Next Monday, the winners will be announced. The group that created the best commercial will get a pass out of Language Arts class and be videotaped around the SMS campus acting their hearts out. These commercials will then be edited by yours truly, and shown during the next couple of weeks after the morning announcements. Once again, all of the groups did a fabulous job, so the competition is still. I personally can’t wait to Monday to deliver the exciting news!
